VARILIGHT win Innovative Lighting Award at 100% Design, London for DigiFlux Dimmable CFLs

VARILIGHT awarded 5 Stars in Independent Bench Test Conducted by Lighting Magazine

The VARILIGHT® brand is synonymous with innovation, quality and value but until now has been best known for its dimmers and decorative wiring accessories.

The manufacturer behind the brand, Doyle & Tratt Products Ltd, have launched a brand new range of dimmable energy-saving compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), demonstrated at the National Homebuilding & Renovating show at the NEC from the 22nd to the 25th March, featuring its patented DigiFlux® digital technology.

It is expected that the new DigiFlux® CFLs will be welcomed by householders wanting to save money and energy without compromising on the control of their lighting that dimming provides. They can be used as a direct replacement for traditional incandescent lamps and provide big energy savings.

The new 20W T3 spiral Dimmable EnergySaver+ can be dimmed using a standard dimmer switch from 2% to 100% brightness and is predicted to save the purchaser more than £100 on energy bills, during its 16000 hour lifetime, compared with an equivalent 100W GLS lamp. Combining the energy-saving properties of a CFL with the capacity to dim results in superb energy efficiency calculated to reduce carbon emissions by more than half a tonne with every GLS lamp replaced.

The range also includes Switch Dimmable EnergySaver+ lamps with the same specification but these can be dimmed from a standard light switch. Thanks to the innovative DigiFlux ballast technology, flicking the switch on and off puts the lamp into a dimming cycle. Once the desired brightness is reached another flick of the switch sets the light level. This level is stored and the lamp will illuminate at this level (even if it is at the minimum) until the level is reset.

Both models are available with B22 or E27 fittings and produce 1200 lumens.

Further benefits are provided by the DigiFlux® digital dimming technology with excellent power factor correction delivering a power factor of over 0.95 for the Dimmable EnergySaver+. This compares with a power factor of less than 0.6 for most CFLs, which results in inefficient energy distribution and higher energy costs.

In addition to dimmable CFLs, the DigiFlux® range will include fully dimmable ballasts for linear fluorescent lamps (LFLs) that avoid the disadvantages of traditional 1-10V systems by using standard two-wire control not requiring additional control cabling. These too will be available either to be controlled by a dimmer or by a standard light switch and will extend lamp life significantly. A special sequencing version is also planned, designed for illuminated point-of-sale and advertisements. The ballast will cycle the brightness accordingly to a pre-programmed a time sequence.

At a time when governments have energy-saving high on their agenda, and with energy costs soaring, we expect these new products to appeal to local authorities, industry and householders alike.
