VARILIGHT is the brand name of Doyle & Tratt Products Ltd, a leading British manufacturer of dimmer switches and decorative wiring accessories. Our story began when Dr Tony Doyle turned a drill speed controller into a light dimmer with the help of his wife, Carole. What started in 1972 as a family‑run venture, with the Doyle and Tratt families hand‑assembling each unit, soon grew as demand and reputation for innovation took hold.

Over the decades we’ve led the evolution of dimming technology — from early rotary dimmers to today’s intelligent V‑Pro and V‑Com ranges that optimise LED performance and handle large loads. We’ve added smart Wi‑Fi dimmers and micro in‑line modules, and our V‑Pro Smart system lets users control lighting via a mobile app.

Along the way, our innovations have earned two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise (2006 and 2015), the world’s first truly dimmable compact fluorescent lamp (2006), an Innovation in Lighting Design award at 100% Design (2007), a Decade of Design finalist slot (2012), a Movers and Shakers award (2015), an EW Award for Customer Service (2018) and a commendation for the V‑Pro Smart Series (2023).

In 2025 we introduced a lifetime guarantee, underscoring our confidence in the durability of our products.

From our base in Horsham, we serve the UK retail and trade markets as well as customers across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and we remain proudly committed to British manufacturing and design excellence.
