The PowerGrid range of items has the same profile as the Dimension Screwless range and is designed to coordinate with that range. The difference in the two ranges is that the PowerGrid plates have two small screws in the front of them in order to attach the frame (yoke) and the front plate. You can view more examples here.
We have a video on our Varilight TV YouTube channel illustrating how to install PowerGrid, click here to view.
The PowerGrid items fit together use a front plate, a frame and a combination of modules. In order to fit them together, follow the instructions below. If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
1. Always disconnect the mains before beginning any electrical work.
2. Clip any grid modules into the front plate.
PowerGrid dimmers are inserted from the rear. Insert the claws at the top of the dimmer module in first and connect to the top of the frame. Push the module up from the below and clip the base to the bottom of the frame. It will now hold securely in plate. Remove any knobs from the dimmer modules before attaching the plate.
Other PowerGrid modules are inserted from the front. First, slot the base of the module in to the bottom of the frame. Next, push at the top of the module and it will click in to place.
3. Make electrical connections making sure any bare wires are covered by appropriate sleeving. You can view wiring diagrams on the instruction leaflet.
4. The gird frames must be earthed using the earth terminals provided.
5. Screw the grid frames to the wall box using the larger fixing screws supplied in the frames.
6. Attach the PowerGrid faceplate using smaller fixing screws provided in a bag with the frames.
7. Switch on the mains supply.
For the PowerGrid Screwless range, follow the same instructions, but on step 6, you just need to clip the faceplate onto the frame.
Decorative products should be treated with great care when cleaning. Excessive scrubbing or the application of abrasive cleaning products may permanently damage the quality of the finish.
We recommend cleaning with a damp soft cloth. The application of detergents is not recommended. Dilute any detergents you do intend to use and always wipe away with a damp cloth to remove any traces of detergent before allowing the product to air dry.
When installing this product in a back-box with too much cabling, the best option is to apply even pressure to the whole faceplate front to allow the plate to sit flush, then tighten the screws adequately. However, don't use too much force, as this could damage the product, the backbox, or make the wiring unsafe. If you have to use too much force to get the faceplate to sit flush, consider reducing the amount of cabling in the backbox.
Dimmers from all of our ranges should be removed for the duration of the insulation test. Failing to do so could damage the dimmer and make the product guarantee invalid.
The guarantee period given on all products is 10 years. You can see the outline of the guarantee for VARILIGHT dimmers below.
Varilight undertakes to repair or replace, at its discretion, goods which have become defective within 10 years of purchase, solely as a result of faulty materials and workmanship, provided that:-
a) The unit has been correctly fitted according to the instructions and has not been used with an incompatible load, fluorescent tubes, or overloaded beyond its rating, and has only been used on a 200-250V a.c. power supply.
b) The dimmer module has not been tampered with or taken apart. However, for your convenience, it is perfectly in order to remove a faulty dimmer module from multi-gang dimmers by pulling off the knob and unscrewing the nut under the knob. You will then still have the remaining modules working whilst we service your faulty module.
c) For UK customers, that the unit is securely packed and safely returned to:- Customer Services, Carylls Lea, Faygate, Horsham, West Sussex, RH12 4SJ together with a letter stating the guarantee registration number [on the instruction leaflet] the date and place of purchase, the type and wattage of the lighting or other load being controlled and the details of the fault. For EU customers, return to your Varilight supplier.
This guarantee states Varilight's entire liability, which does not extend to cover consequential loss or damage or installation costs arising from a defective product. The guarantee does not apply to problems arising from any incompatibility between your lamps and the dimmer switch. This guarantee does not in any way affect the statutory rights of the purchaser and is offered so that you may have the benefit of our technical facilities.
Please Note: Each product guarantee will have slight variations so please check the instruction leaflet that came with your VARILIGHT product for further information.
